Teaching in the UK - How We Can Help
Teaching in the UK is a very different experience from teaching in your own country. Our consultants will be there to support you at every stage of this challenging and exciting experience as you embark on an education and teaching job.
We offer:
- A vast range of short-term, long-term or permanent teaching jobs throughout England and Wales
- Excellent rates of pay
- A guaranteed payment scheme
- Ongoing professional training and assistance
Are you eligible to teach in the UK?
In order to work as a qualified teacher, you will need:
- To be a provisionally or fully registered teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- The right to work in the UK, i.e. the correct visas or work permit with entry clearance
- A valid, up-to-date criminal check from your own country
- Clear and fluent English with excellent communication skills
Based on a career action plan that we set together and using our in-depth knowledge of local schools and areas, we will match your skills to our existing education jobs. Our consultants will contact schools proactively on your behalf to find the right position for you. If you do not have QTS, there are government schemes that allow you to obtain this status. Moreover, for temporary contracts, we will look at each candidate’s qualifications and experience, this may result in payment as a qualified teacher.
If you do not have a permit to work, we can search for a suitable school to offer you a permanent position and apply for a work permit on your behalf.
In the initial interview your consultant will discuss any queries over your eligibility to teach, your qualifications and appropriate rates of pay.
Getting established
Bank accounts
In order to receive timely payment for work you will need a bank account. We have established an agreement with HSBC bank to assist you.
To open your account, visit your local HSBC bank and present them with:
- An introduction letter from your consultant
- Your passport
National Insurance
National Insurance (NI) is a tax automatically taken out of your pay package by the British government. It covers entitlements to benefits including free National Health Service healthcare. Details can be found on the HM Revenue & Customs website. You will need to obtain a NI number from your local Jobcentre Plus office. Listings can be found on the website or through directory enquiries.
Healthcare
You will also need to register with your local National Health Service (NHS) doctor, who can be found in on the NHS website or through directory enquiries.
Visiting a doctor is free and the only charge is for medicines prescribed. In an emergency, dial 999 and ask for an ambulance. Dental treatment can also be obtained at a reduced cost through the NHS. Again, listings for dentists can be found on the website or through directory enquiries.
