More needs to be done to improve leadership skills

In a recent survey by Hays Senior Finance, 83% of qualified accountants polled said their company did not do enough or could do more to improve employees' leadership skills.

The results come as the recognition of leadership skills gains national coverage across the UK, and businesses everywhere step up their internal leadership initiatives. A further 78% of those polled said they agreed or strongly agreed with the statement that the key to successful leadership is influence and not authority.

Teresa Thorrington-Allen, National Director of Hays Senior Finance commented on what Hays Senior finance is doing to improve the situation: ‘One of our key themes for the new financial year is leadership. We have been running leadership forums for our clients across the UK for some months now.

'They facilitate a networking seminar in which finance professionals can discuss their own experiences while hearing from a group of experts in the field. The vast majority of these seminars from region to region have revealed that many of us are currently embarking on personal development plans to improve leadership skills.’
